 note = {Throughout the field of English language education, communication skills are increasingly being emphasized. Within the Japanese university context this is particularly the case. There are however many challenges to fostering a communicative classroom. These challenges include learners accustomed to teacher-centered approaches and passive behavior in the classroom. Additional complications inherent to compulsory study include variations in learners’ motivation, interest, and proficiency.
