The last volume has discussed the context behind the birth of image of Buddha at Mathura under the Kusan dynasty from the view of Folk cults in ancient India. In last volume, it was reported how was the situation of the cults besides the Buddhism. With being based on its context, the situation of the origin of Buddha (Sakyamuni) image was reconsidered. The appearance of Buddha images labeled as “Bodhisattva” at Mathura and its meaning of the term were considered while also introducing more recent opinions such as Prof. Ju-Hyung, Rhi pointed out.Being based on the last volume this paper discusses the development of Buddha trinity images from the Kusan dynasty to the middle of 5th century before Buddhist cave temples of later phase had constructed.
