Research and consideration on his public arts are essential to understand his art work especially in his later life. For he worked in various kinds of activities specifically as a writer, a cast on TV and a speaker, it is necessary to grasp whether his activities were generally accepted for evaluating his art work.His posthumous work “Kaen” owned by Forest Park of the History and the Culture is one of his public art. The purpose of this paper is to clarify whether the work “Kaen” was accepted by local residents. Section 1 confirms history and the definition of “public art”. Section 2 surveys previous researches on public art by Taro Okamoto, and clarifies their themes. Section 3 explores the background of setting up of “Kaen” and process of its production.
